Queen Elizabeth II recently passed away at the age of 96 being the longest-ruling monarch in British history. Interestingly, the deceased monarch holds the world record for the most currencies that have featured the same individual’s image, featuring in more coins than any other British royal figure. She appears in the coinage of at least 45 different countries, including the Type 1 2023 1 oz Silver Britannia, her last appearance in the Britannia series.
After the Queen’s legacy, the Royal Mint releases the Type 2 2023 1 oz Silver Britannia with the first-ever effigy of King Charles III, now available to you online from SD Bullion.
- 1 Troy Oz of pure 999 fine silver bullion;
- A new mintage design featuring the face of King Charles III in the obverse;
- Micro-text, latent image, tincture lines, and surface animation as security features;
- Reverse designer: Philip Nathan; Obverse designer: Martin Jennings;
- Legal tender within the UK with a face value of 2 pounds.
According to the royal mint, Philip Nathan is responsible for the four security features that make the coin one of the most secure bullion coins in the world.
The reverse shows the Britannia holding a trident to represent her naval history and the Union Jack Shield. In fact, the trident also becomes a padlock if you move it from side to side. Surrounding the corners of the coin, there is the word “Britannia,” “2023”, “1 oz”, and “1999 FINE – SILVER”.
The micro inscription reads “Decus et Tutamen,” which means “an ornament and a safeguard.”
The obverse design will feature a brand new effigy of King Charles III, a Martin Jennings’ creation. The Latin inscription at the borders read “CHARLES III – D – G – REX – F – D – 2 POUNDS – 2022,” which translates to ‘Charles III, by the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith.’
